Rannoch had grown tired of flying long ago. He enjoyed the feeling that it gave, the feeling of falling, of weightlessness, it could even be compared to love, feeling your heart flutter as you dove at enormous speed. but he had stopped, stopped because he wanted to actually survey my surroundings. He Stopped trotting, for a moment and surveyed my surroundings with a keen eye. He was in the middle of some wood, which one... he didn't really care. But he did notice the birds fluttering through the trees, and the berries rustling through the wind... and the clouds, about to burst blotting out the sun. And i stood there for a moment holding my head up high, quietly surveying my surroundings.

Doe strode through the forest like the proud lady she was, subdued brown tones on her body bleding well with the scenery. She wasn't timid, nor too bold, simply in the middle, but she wasn't going to be an easy one to woo. She wanted somebody dependable, and life told her that none of these bucks would truely care for her year round, especially during rut. She parted the snow and lowered her head to browse, scanning the ground for green. It had been so long since she had seen fresh grass. Maybe she would get lucky this time. There had been some edibles around, and those mushrooms she maaged to find ended up being the best meal she ever had in the four winters she's dwelled in.
She had no clue there was anybody in the area, she was simply oblivious, spurned on by her hunger and need to eat. [/size]

Rannoch spun his head wildly around, ready for danger. he had heard something... something that stood out from the surrounding natural coolness of his surroundings. He looked all around himself, standing stock still. He waited for his heart to stop pumping adrenaline into his blood before calling out in a strong voice "who's there!" It was more of a statement that a question, for there was definitely something stirring beyond the brush. Keeping his head low and his ears erect, he listened intently, stomping his hoof in anticipation a few times.

The call of identification confused the doe quite a bit. She could semll him in the wind, figuring it was blowing her way. She laughed a light chortle, her voice ringing out pleasently in the area. With her head still high, she preoceeded foward. It'd be nice enough to show herself to him, smiling almost smugly, but smug wasn't the ight term for it. It appeared to be moreso amused, and she couldn't blame herself for it. Auds laid back in a submissive hold didn't flop about as they would have at a jaunty trot. Instead, she appeared to float across the ground, making nay a sound on the already trodden leaves. Sable eyes stared him down, still smiling as she stood poised in the open.
"You called?"
She asked with humor in her voice, speaking as if she had known him since they were fawns. That wasn't the story though, and the doe's body was on guard in subtle ways, hooves were place so that pivoting would be easier, allowing her more time to put space between them if an attack were to be mounted. Tail was raised, caused by her back arched in apprehenion. She wasn't evactly sure why he had been so hard at summoning her, and the stomps, which were actually a warning call of predator for any of his kind around, make her heart flutter weakly, pulse picking up.

Rannoch blushed in stupidity, and rose his hear to a less defensive position, he hadn't seen a predator this whole time, and still he was assuming the worst. this'll be one to remember, he thought, believing that a grazing doe was a predator lurking in the dark.
Upon hearing her words of humor, he turned his head away, embarrassed. and managed to say, "Oh, I, uhhh..." before realizing that he was making a complete fool of himself. Rannoch cleared his voice, rose his head, and in a stronger voice he made an attempt at conversation, "hello, and how are you this..." he paused looking up at the sky, "...rainy day?"
Rannoch observed the doe's graceful movements, was she even walking? he asked himself as it seemed the doe was merely floating over her surroundings. he noticed other things about her too, how she was able to be slightly defensive while maintaining a beautifully graceful composure, how she held her head high and proud, but most of all, he noticed the way she talked, it was like a childhood memory, he had not heard someone talk to him like that since he had left his herd.

Brook hooded her eyes. Yes, she could see his embarassment clearly. It was somewhat foolish to be so on edge. There was rarely a predator about who posed a threat, mostly anything now were deer wearing their guises. She had seen bears, and wolves, and several big cats, all of them does or bucks wishing not to be confronted or out to prowl for the opposite sex. By now, she had pretty much been desensitized of the fears of those creatures, as long as they smelled of grass, not blood.
She raised her head to the cloudy, sad sky, sihging in agreement to the weather. It had been horrible, only the higher countries had been drier, and deer were getting hoof rot as they days strolled by. She had yet to find a cave to nestle in on her lonesome, but as a fennec fox, she has found many crannies that weren't flooded that were warm and secure. She smiled politely to his question, not moving an inch. Another sigh.
"I'm well, though I pray the rain will stop soon. It's so boggy these days."
She winked lightly and flicked her tail, still appearing to have that childish, yet austere persona to her. True, she didn't know him, but it didn't mean she could try to get to know him now. She could feel his eyes scouring her body, making her more uncomfortable as he kept the silence. She gathered her legs close to her body, some muscles tense, and others relaxed as she tried to hide her uncertainty. He didn't appear to be a brute as if yet, but his... sensitivity? made her question his strength and prowess.

Rannoch nodded thoughtfully in agreement. He was quite fond of rain, how water could fall from the sky, just like himself, made him feel at home. But recently, it had been raining to much for comfort. the weather was indeed making the ground -"boggy"-
Realizing that he was making her uncomfortable with the silence, Rannoch said in a very proud, yet friendly voice "I am Rannoch of the northern alliance, lead stag of the Blooming Wood. And may I inquire as to who you are, kind one" bowing slightly as he said it. When Rannoch didn't know what name to call someone, he would simply use his observations to give them a temporary name, it had worked for him so far in life, so he had stuck to it. And indeed, she did seem kind, playful even. He had noted the flip of the tail, and the friendly wink, and smiled.
Now he knew what he had missed through that year of fighting in his old heard, his scar on his leg suddenly ached slightly, as just the memory of that terrible year of gore would, what it had done to him, what he had to do to keep his family safe... But he was now an expert at concealing these emotions, and went on smiling, waiting for the doe's answer.

At the moment, she lifted her cloven hoof and moved herself nearer to him, where there was a drier spot for her to stand. She was somewhat comfortable with him now. At least he wasn't making the advances like some creepy stag. She replied back to him in a quieter, more bell-like tone.
"I am Brook of the North... Alone."
She didn't seem subdied, but just... Nonchalant in a ways. Leaning her weight on one cloved hoof, she let the other rest. She dipped her head with a subtle nod and then raised her eyes again to him. Then the silence again. She waited for more dialogue since he appeared to be eading their verbal tango.

"It is a pleasure to meet you Brook of the north" he said. Smiling as her voice played a beautiful melody.
She seemed more relaxed, and that fact calmed him down quite a bit. Though he was still ecstatic to be carrying on a decent conversation. "what is one such as yourself doing out in the middle of such a place?" he asked inquiringly in a more friendly voice, tilting his head slightly while still keeping it high. Rannoch was deeply relieved that all the formalities were done and through. That was the one up side to having been a loner when he was traveling, he didn't have to remember all the formalities. But now he had his own territory, and it was time to use these again.

She smiled,
"I have no herd, what else am I to do but roam where the lone does stray?"
Again, no dominant emotion to her words. She sighed and lowered her head, scouring the ground for something edible. She had been waiting for the snow to melt, and she was so hungry now. Hopefully there would be something to eat, then she culd find a dry place to lay down and ruminate. Ducking ehr head, she spotted a clump of growing ferns, snapping them up hungrily. If she was hungry and it had been drier, she wouldn't have dug for worms in the mud, but since it was too wet, it was useles. [/blockquote]

Rannoch paused for a moment, watching the elegant doe graze, and thinking to himself, she's not really an inquisitive doe, but she is polite, graceful, friendly, playful even... not to mention beautiful. It was only then he tested the air. He blinked in surprise, and said, intrigued "you smell of fox." this was a surprise to him, for where he had grown up, there was very few deer who could shape-shift, and those who could often kept it a secret. Yet he could come up with no other explanation on why she did have the scent of both a fox, and a deer about her.
The clouds had begun to burst again. He blinked to get the drops of liquid out of his eyes as they fell from the storm that brewed above. He turned his head, looking around for some form of shelter, spotting none at the moment, he just stood there, continuing the conversation.

He seemed to have spaced off a bit while she was still browing for forrage to eat, pulling her head up to swallow what she had. As she did, she tossedher head and nodded as if it was one of the funniest secrets around. She reached her to rubher muzzle on her foreleg before pulling up, smiling.
"Ah yes- The fox. You aren't born of these parts yes? You know about how deer bear guises, right?"
She chirped her sentence before dissolving it chortling laughter. Finding her bearings again, she nodded and steeped in closer.
"Just watch, it may surprise you, but it's a commonplace here. I dont' think I've actually shown this openly to anybody of your gender."
The doe leaned her head down, her neck and legs starting to shorten while her fluffy tail changed to a tannish-white hue. Fur grew considerably pale and thinned out, her ers changing shape and shade. Hooves plit into for neat toes with a dewclaw and a wicked set of curled talons, eyes black and beady as one of a predator. She parted her petite muzzle, fangs with a matte finish glistening in what sunlight there was. She sat up on her haunches and wagged her now black-tipped tail.
"This is who I can pretend to be. I can live like this, hunt, flee, sleep, hide- whatever, but I only eat bugs and the rare snakes."

Rannoch was suprised to hear that shape shifting was commen. He watched, intreagued, as the fox inside the doe took control of phisical being. What he saw now was from a completly differnt world than than the doe that was standing before him a moment ago, this was a whole nother end of the spectrum. Differnt as her shape was, he could not help but notice a few similaritys; she still had the gracefulness that she had displayed before, and some of her markings were the same.
"Unfortunatly Brook" now it was his turn to act like he had known her since fawnhood "what i change into is far less usefull." Rannoch looked around quickly, unsure if she had been joking that it was commen for deer to be changlings in this area. "What I may shift into is merely a falcon, it is who i may pretend to be." he took a moment. "Though i do not have claws and fangs, as is both preferable and more usefull. What i do have is ability, ability to fly over the land, ability to find a better shelter just like you, and ability to go to the edge of the world and dive down at unmeasureable speeds clashing tallons with prey." Rannoch paused for a moment "what i prefer to eat however is right here, on the good earth." He sighed, and eyed the ground for vegitation. The telling of this, his deepest secret seemed to have lifted a weight from his shoulders, a weight he had grown use to carying, now that it was gone he felt a little awkward.
He noticed that she had been moving closer to him, step by step. It made him feel both nervous and comforted. Every step closer, gave him a strange feeling of joy. I must like this doe indeed, thought Rannoch, i've only known her for a little while and already, on her word, i have told her one of what would have been back home, my deepest secrets. what a strange place.

She coninuted whisking her tail, snesitive ears finding the scrape of bugs in the tree nearby. Head angling toward it, she looked at him.
"I'm sorry, one moment. Keep talking- I can hear you."
She murmured, trotting over to the woody bark. Placing her ear near it, she sniffed down its side to the ground and dug in with her paws, scraping away the dirt until she could fit her muzzle in, forcing way as she appeared to fight with something. Suddenly she strightened up with a large grub in her mouth, growling and yipping posessively as she gobbled it down. As if she had turned a switch, she looked back. It was her turn to be embarassed.
"I'm sorry- It's impulse when it comes to the fox... And that grub was too fat to resist... But being a bird would be so mugh more useful. You can at least get to places. I'm very small, so I can curl up under the smallest ledges to stay warm and dry."
Returning to her doe form, she trod close beside him, smiling. Her breaths had quickened heart thudding delicately on her ribs. It pounded in her ears, and she swore he could hear her.
"It's been such a short time, and we sound like we're best friends." [/blockquote]

Rannoch laughed when he saw the fox poking her nose into the ground for grubs. It was an odd sight, seeing what he had always known as a hunter, dig through the ground in search of bugs. But he waited politely for her to finish up her small meal she had procured.
"Ya," chuckled Rannoch as soon as she had returned to deer form "It does seem like we have known each other since fawn hood"
Rannoch figured that now it was only polite to shift into a falcon, as she had shown him her form. He jumped in the air, and twisted in a confusion of color. When he exited the fray, he had unleashed the falcon. He promptly fluttered to a branch hanging low, only a few feet from the doe. Rannoch's hearing was now extremely acute, he could now hear the family of grubs that she had been digging for, he could hear the rodents burrowing beneath their feet, but what he was most surprised about was being able to hear her heart beating fast and loud. Why?, he wondered. Rannoch tilted his avian head, letting his curiosity show.
